Wednesday, 11/16/11, Lance and Emily started the harvest and Bruce and Diana started placing T-tape on beds K4 and K7.
All fruit was removed from bell and banana pepper plants (B2, AB7 and AB8) and all remaining squash was harvested from F1 and F2 (butternut) and JA (intermixed varieties of pumpkin, acorn, delicata).
Mark dropped off six large Trombetta squash (the largest being 5 feet long) that he brought from his home garden earlier the same morning.
Chard was harvested from the JA bed. Lance weighed and with help from others transported produce to the Asbury Kitchen where Open Heart Kitchen (OHK) staff and volunteers used them in the day’s entrees.
As soon as the T-Tape was place on bed K4, Bruce and Diana started digging a 5 to 6 inch hexagonal pattern of small holes for planting Early Red Burger and Sweet Pak Yellow onion seedlings that Mark had purchased from Lockhart Seeds Inc. in Stockton, CA.
Judy and Teresa arrived at 10:00 AM and worked with Diana to finish digging the holes and start planting the onions in K4 while Bruce started digging a 5 inch hexagonal pattern in K7. After K4 was completely dug, Diana helped Bruce dig K7 while the others finished planting K4. A patron from OHK asked several questions about organic gardening and helped plant some onions.
After the rest of the crew left, Bruce and Lance finished planting the Sweet Pak Yellow onions in bed K7. In all, about 2000 onions were planted.
