Eleven Volunteers helped with gardening activities at the Fertile GroundWorks Garden of Grace today. Produce was harvested for Open Heart Kitchen (the local soup kitchen serving the Livermore-Amador Valley). Assistant Gardener Lance conducted a tour of the garden for new volunteers and after harvest we put in a late planting of Winter squash including Red Kuri, Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato, Upper Ground Sweet Potato, and Waltham butternut (all C. moschata), and White Cushaw (C. mixta) . We also planted Black Tail Mountain watermelon.
Beds M14, M15 and M16 were weeded (mostly pig weed, and field bind weed with lesser amounts of sows thistle, mallow, purslane and storksbill.
Bed JA1S was weeded and 40 ft of blackberry primocanes were tied up to Hortanova trellis mesh.
