Belated Happy Monday!

Happy Thursday everyone,

I hope everyone is having a great week. Been a bit hectic for me so apologies for being late with my note of gratitude for all you helped us get done last week. We all rocked it out! Joining the regulars volunteers, we had folks from the First Presbyterian Church, Workday, Livermore, Granada, Dublin, Valley, Dougherty and Bishop O’Dowd High Schools, plus members of Boy Scout Troop 815, Young Men’s Service League, and the Reach to Society Club. EK wins our volunteer form farthest away, coming all the way from New York to help us out. Thanks EK!

Saturday afternoon Girl Scout Troop 32019 assisted Mr. Ball, our beekeeper, in presenting his bee keeping class. I learned a lot from the class and hope some of you were also able to stay and enjoy looking at the demonstration hive they set up.

Together we harvested 465 pounds of fresh produce to share with our neighbors in need through Open Heart Kitchen and our local food pantries. I know their clients love getting all the fresh vegetables to eat.

We also made great strides in moving the garden into the fall by gleaning, clearing, weeding and amending 852 sq. feet of bed space with about 3,750 pounds of compost and fertilizer. Then you planted all that bed space by direct sowing 2,860 beets, 1,172 carrots, 812 peas, 680 radishes and transplanting 136 chard plants. The garlic slated for two of the pea beds you prepared arrived yesterday and we will sow it this weekend. YEAH!

You also started 2,256 seeds in flats! Now all 6,072 above ground plants we needed to seed to fill the winter garden are germinating away. Wahoo!

In addition to all that planting, the Saturday team continued our compost making cycle. Thank you compost team! Yes, indeed we were busy folks last week!

The garden is making rapid progress into its fall/winter beauty because of your efforts! As always, I am indebted to all of you and send you all my sincere gratitude. Fertile GroundWorks could not do all we do without wonderful volunteers like you. You are all truly amazing human beings. THANK YOU!!! for enabling us to TEACH, GROW, and GIVE.

I do hope that you all will be able to come back and see how your efforts helped the garden to grow and change with the seasons.

Until next we meet, please do take care of yourselves. Have a great weekend!

Happy gardening everyone.

With sincere gratitude and hugs

Brenda
