Hi All,
WOW, it has been a busy few weeks with the Plant Sale! We have brought in over $16,000, gave away almost $5000 worth of plants to our local schools and a little over $1000 more of plants to give to LHS and St. Barts! A combined effort was put in to box up over 4,000 plants into the orders that were picked up! That truly makes up for the muscle soreness I am feeling now, lol!
Oh my gosh, you guys where do I even begin!?! It has been 3 weeks since I sent out the last Happy Monday Note and so much has been taken care of since then thanks to everyone’s efforts to come and help out in the garden! We have had our regular volunteers, 4 work crews-Omron, Essex, Workday and Salesforce, board members, new volunteers….the list goes on…York, Kaleidoscope, youth groups…! Every one of you gave your all to help us make sure we were ready when our neighbors came out to pick up their plants to create their gardens!
Over 1,300 seeds were started and well over 4,000 plants were transplanted to larger pots for the sale. Omron helped to get most of the seeds planted, Essex helped to pot up tomatoes, greens and lettuce plants, Workday helped pot up peppers & even more tomatoes & lettuces and Salesforce came in and helped us to get organized for the day of plant sale-that is when we open the sale up to the public!
During all that we also had our regular volunteers out helping to continue with the in garden chores; 6 beds were planted with lettuces, CL brought in a Concord type grape & planted 2 of them along the Berry Patch fence line, a couple of native plants were planted in the Native Hedgerow and the Orchard crew planted 4 fig trees! York was out to help us continue caring for the worms and Kaleidoscope helped us continue feeding the rotating composter as well as shredded paper for the worm & compost bins!
There were also crews out weeding, cardboarding and wood chipping the paths. RB was out with his weed annihilator helping us to tamp back the weeds. There was a lot of weeding happening since the rain helped the weeds along they have been very happy popping up all over the garden!
All while this was happening El & TE were busy working on a Compost Hub sign for us
Thank you to all who brought out the produce boxes for us to use for the plant sale! If you have more bring them on in because we can always use them for the pantries. We are also in need of strawberry baskets-they help us protect the leafy greens from being devoured by the birds. I put a call out for them a few days ago but wanted to mention out here as well.
I want to give a shout out to GLIFY who ran back and forth on plant sale day to grab people’s orders as they were coming in! They did a great job getting the orders up as quickly as possible:) Also on the day of 2 of our board members came out to cashier the pick ups and the plant sale-Barbara took care of the pick ups and Brook & her 2 daughters helped with the plant sale:)
Over the past 3 weeks we harvested over 350lbs of produce to send in to our neighbors! Again, a combined effort was put in to make that happen.
You all are amazing and we are so grateful that you help us to continue helping our community!
Take care
Lori
