Hi All,
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Tod gave time to his Audubon group’s Earth Day in Tracy & I got to see some friends on Saturday and on Sunday Tod & I hunkered down and rested most of the day. It seemed the perfect day to do so. We are currently trying to get caught up on The Last of Us on HBO and we rewatched Land of the Lost-Tod does not remember watching it but it was fun enough for me to sit through again;)
York started the week out for us getting beds I01 and H01 planted with almost 40 melons! They also got to see the last of the arbor go up and meet my hubby Tod who finally had time to come help us on Monday:) While they were busy with that I was able to get more plants shipped off to another school, Yay! Oh!!! AL also came out and got the fence posts moved over to make more room in the Bee Area for when the bees arrive!
Ross helped us out with getting over 300 plants potted up and into larger containers to buy us a little time while we get the beds ready. Not sure if anyone noticed but we had a trailer of cardboard sitting out back for over a week and they also helped us to start unloading it…it was ALOT of cardboard, I think the most that was ever sent! Somewhere in there, even after helping us with the cardboard, some from their crew had the energy to help dig a hole for our new donated Oak tree!
Essex also helped out last week, getting the rest of the cardboard unloaded was the first project! After that they also still had energy to get over 100 plants potted up, helped to weed out bed L04, as well as the path in front of it, and a member of their crew also helped one of the church members to fix a line out in the pasture.
Special shout out to AZ on the Saturday crew-he inspired everyone to get out in the rain and get the chores done! AL & AO joined him first in weeding out the path leading to the Big Hoop House. After that more volunteers started joining in the outside chores and they all got bed D01 prepped, put a trellis in L04 & prepped it and gleaned out bed AB34! Before that they were in the Big Hoop House planting seeds-over 250 of them-for the garden…yes, we need even more plants than what we have leftover from the plant sale!
In between all of the groups coming and helping out so much more was able to get done by our group of regular volunteers:
Bed F01 was prepped and planted all in one day by Gl & CW along with the crew of regulars that joined them. Bed A13 was prepped by JT & SB and planted by Enrique M & Rayna along with the crew that joined them. Bed B06 was planted by an NCL mom and her daughter. Bed D01 was planted by some of the Saturday crew! Over 300 plants went in to the garden beds last week for our summer harvest!
All that and we harvested over 390lbs of produce to send in to our neighbors!!! Go team go! Look at everything you get done and are still able to get the harvest completed and food sent in to the pantries! Great job everyone!!!
Take care
Lori
