Hi All,
You did it! You helped us get all the large beds prepped for planting! We had 8 beds left to get ready the beginning of the week and thanks to everyone’s efforts in the garden you helped us get them all done by this past Saturday!
Ridgeline, new company out to the garden, came in with great energy and helped get 2 of our longer beds done, AB07 & AB10! While they were busy with that our regular crew-EL, GL, KS & KB gleaned and weeded bed M14! Another part of the same crew helped get B17 done-that was KC, TB, AL & DK! Kelly helped out the next day with getting M14 prepped, with a bit of help from JR, the rest of the crew worked on prepping bed AB08 and gleaning and weeding bed M03! Come Saturday we prepped beds C02 & B03 in the AM shift and bed M03 was finished off in the PM shift! Whew, lot of prepping going on but the large beds are finished! We have the smaller beds-2 raised beds and 2 of the front G beds-but that is it! Now we concentrate on getting everything planted!
Of course there are so many other chores getting done in the garden…
A lot of the gleaned veggies that were inedible were sent to the compost bins out back so they have been getting fed every day! Each compost bin received a little bit of veg last week! LP & KM went around to the tomato beds up front and started clipping them back-yes, they are starting to take over the paths. If you see any tomato plants getting in your way please clip them either into their cages or against the trellis’. The berry patch got a bit of love from our Orchard guys. They weeded around the berry plants and some of the wires holding the plants up were tightened. Gloves were cleaned and paired up so the clean glove bins are full! Garlic was hung to the rafters with care by JT-and he came up with a way to create more space for hanging in between the rafters, check it out when you can!
Lance kept busy last week not only with all the weighing but with some extras who showed up in the garden! There was a family last year who won a basket at our gala & they showed up to fill it with fresh veggies and Lance showed them around the garden! Anna from StopWaste & her crew came out and Lance gave them a tour of the garden! Thank you for all your help Lance!
RB Weed Annihilator was back at it taking out the weeds around the newly installed P beds! That was a great plan on his part because we need to get in those beds this week and start sowing them with winter squash seeds! 241 more veggie plants went in to the beds and 33 seeds were directly sown in to bed L03. Fertilizer was batched up, the driveway had a few patches fixed up, onions from the box shed had their greens topped off and sent in to the compost bins. SM was also out last week and continued her work on the Native plants. Let me know if you’d be interested in helping out with the native plants in the garden! Also, if anyone is wanting to work in the Orchard let me know that too!
Did I forget anything-I probably did but trust me I do not mean to! If you see or do something I am not aware of please let me know! Remember, the more we know what is going on in the garden the better able we are to keep up on ALL the chores needing to be done in the garden:)
The total harvest for Tuesday and Wednesday’s deliveries was-803.25lbs!
Thank you all for getting this done! My goal was to have all the beds prepped before Brenda got back from vacation and you all made it happen!
