The garden is open during normal volunteer hours.

Happy Monday!

Hi All,

Weeding, weeding, weeding….that is the name of the game in the garden right now!

Sciens crew came to help out last week! They helped us harvest almost 230lbs of produce that day and helped with the weeding! They stuck together and got A01 through A06 weeded along with B06 through B04 done as well! The vegetable plants all look so much healthier now. Sciens also helped with tying back tomatoes and the melon plants in some of the A beds!

Enterprise also helped out with weeding the Orchard-got about 90% done! Some of the crew helped out with cleaning & bagging some of the garlic you see hanging in the Office and also helped with pairing up the gloves that were cleaned that morning! 2 of the crew also planted out the last of the rosemary into the P beds out back!

Kaleidoscope was back and helped Kelly and me get the bee equipment out to the new Bee Shed that has been on the back patio and the bee equipment in the Pump Shed too! It is so nice having it all in 1 spot! They also helped with getting some garlic cleaned & bagged as well as cleaned some tags for future plantings. On our way back from placing the bee equipment in the shed we found an owl pellet that we got to dissect!

Mook buckets-tomato season has arrived and so has the mook bucket! We need to be sure we have these with us when harvesting tomatoes so we can also take off the tomatoes that have been bird eaten, too much blossom end rot, just rotten and we are not able to send them in. We do not want to be leaving these behind because it brings in the rodents. Yes, we do have help with the rodents (hawks, fox, owls) but right now we are not seeing the foxes and need to be sure we are doing our part to help with keeping the rodent population down. Grab one of the crew and we can show you what we are talking about. The other thing we also want to keep up on is emptying the compostable container that is kept by the washing station. That will also bring in the rodents so we want to have that emptied out once all the washing and packing is done for deliveries.

We had help from our regulars getting the Hoop Houses cleared out of all the old pots from planting in the garden. Oh, KB & JM also organized the Potting Shed for us to place all the empties in! There is still a little more to do in the Greenhouse so if you want to get in on the organization let me know!

JR & DT fixed Compost Bin #3. A few weeks back it was blown off during a super windy day! PL & Hubby went around the garden taking out the Sorghum plants that are popping up everywhere! CL is taking care of the Opo plants in bed K06/07. She showed me how to have them climb the trellis so if interested in helping with that either talk with her or let me know and we can get you started working on that too!

As I look through what we got done last week I seriously see ALOT of weeding! Driveway, beds, Native bed, Fire Pit-anywhere there were weeds it got tackled! Irrigation has been at the front of the list as well. If you see a leak and can fix it please do so! If you do not know how to fix it please find one of us and we will show you how! The more people who know how to fix leaks the better able we will be to keep up with them!

We all harvested 535lbs of produce for the local food pantries!!! OH, could you all please help me to remember that onions need to go out on these deliveries? They are back in the Box Shed and when things are out of sight they sometimes get out of mind on me! Hopefully with writing this it will help me to remember better;)

Thank you all for coming and helping in the garden! We appreciate all the support we receive from each and every one of you! I wish I could write out each thing everyone does but this would become a novel every week-yes, that is how much gets accomplished each shift!

Take care

Lori
