Happy Thursday!

Hi All,Short week last week and the holiday threw me off this week! Hope everyone had time to enjoy themselves over the long holiday weekend! We were busy last week in the garden even though it was a short week for us!

Compost area got lots of love last week. Piles got moved and sifted, the wood chipper got put to great use and the pile that was started kept getting fed…lots of mushy tomatoes! State Compensation Insurance Fund and Gap Inc were both out to help with that! Our windrow of plant leaves and branches is slowly getting smaller as the scraps go into the compost bins and the compost created underneath is moved to the usable bin! The SCIF crew also helped with packing up the harvest one day and Gap Inc helped with clipping back tomato plants while they were out another day!

The Weed Annihilator was back out and took care of the weeds that were starting to get tall on the way out to the bees! Beds were weeded out of bind weed and night shade. The nut sedge that grew about 2ft tall went straight to the compost bins for composting since they were not producing seeds!

RL took care of the worms. She showed a couple of our new volunteers how to feed and water them. CL harvested dill seeds out of bed AB34 for future plantings. The tropicals were moved out of the Big Hoop House. It was just getting too hot in the hoop house for them to survive. You will see them up by the wash station, where we wash and pack produce for deliveries.

All that and more was accomplished in the garden but my brain is a bit fried already with this heat and I cannot remember it all! Harvest last week was 723.13lbs total! Lots of tomatoes coming out of the beds right now. Eggplants are slowly coming on as well as the peppers. Haven’t seen any cucumbers yet but the melons and the bitter melons are starting! The beans are cracking us up because we have found 1 in one bed and 1 in another bed, talk about slowly coming on, lol!!! The greens are abundant and the squash are looking good!

Thank you everyone for your help in taking care of the garden and helping to get the produce picked and delivered!

Take care

Lori
