We are open during normal volunteer hours.

Happy Thursday!

Hello All,

Now that plant sale is over we can take it easy….ha, ha, ha, ha, ha ,ha….just kidding! You all have already been hard at work getting beds prepped and planted for the summer time veggies!!!

Remember the Saturday crew that gleaned out bed N12? Well that bed was amended by the crew and Vector Labs with 12 pts of COF & 2” of Oliveria compost and now has 25 Brandywine & 12 Amana Orange tomatoes planted in it-as well as 320 basil Genovese plants! 3 other beds were also amended and planted; A06 with 11 Anna Russian & 30 basil Genovese, M15 with 16 Anna Russian, 4 Sungold & 4 Super Sweet and M16 with 17 Cherokee Purple & 108 basil Genovese! The crews also got some lettuces planted; ARB2 has 48 Freckles, L01 has 50 Pablo and L02 has 90 Parris Island. Beds H01 & I01 were also amended, had trellis’ added and are now ready to plant this week. All these beds got different amounts of COF amended into them but they all received the same 2” depth of compost.

York was out and helped with feeding the worms, taking off some strawberry baskets of bed K07and they helped me check in on beds to see what is or is not growing. The AUMC guys were also there the same day and got to work putting together the new arbor for over our Produce Washing Station! They finished it up yesterday so come check it out!!!

Kaleidoscope was also out last week! They helped us plant the rest of the curry seeds that were donated to us (KB planted about 64 the day before!), part of the crew helped Kelly to wood chip the South East corner of the Orchard, cleaned the labels we used for the plant sale and helped to take out strawberry baskets in bed B15 & we wondered around to take out a few more in other beds. We kept finding the lady bug cocoons so we left a lot of them in the beds so they can repopulate our garden:)

We started flushing lines to clear out the minerals from the hoses. We still need to flush B13-B18 & A13-A18 if anyone is interested….

Qaadira and Rayna finished up the soil samples for us to send in to see if we need to add anything to our fertilizer for the beds. Volunteers were out garden wide continuing the unending saga of weeding. We sorted out the plants we need for the garden and the plants we are continuing to give to the schools as well as our food pantry partners.

From harvest time we were able to send in over 330lbs of produce to our neighbors! The cauliflowers have been coming on strong as well as the fava beans. We have also been sending out sugar and snap peas!

Thank you all, every one of you. You are what continues to make this work for our neighbors

Take care

Lori
