On Friday Nov 18 Lance weeded, mainly bindweed and purslane, mainly east of the new beds. Bruce watered the area of recent transplants, stirred the compost tea to make it aerobic, and harvested some partially-ripe tomatoes so they could further ripen indoors. On Saturday Nov 19 Lance weeded south of the beds and mulched more of the “lasagna area” west of bed K7.
Monday, 11/14/11, Bruce and Lance removed rock from K4 and Bruce tilled the compost into bed K4. Lance also spread lasagna mulch to the West of K7.
Bruce, Mark and Lance did a Sunday-school presentation to a small group of children. They did a squash harvest and weighing, corn-harvest, soil feel-test, and testing of soil and compost pH. The bed K4 soil was pH 6.5, and the donated compost was over pH 7.5.
Lance worked on adding mulch to the lasagna area, and Mark and Bruce used the Mantis tiller to work compost into the bed K4.
Friday, from 3:00 to 5:00 or 5:30 PM. the Garden crew and volunteers installed T-tape on beds K5 and K6. Bruce leveled bed K4 and Lance spread lasagna mulch on the area W of the K7 bed. When Mark arrived they spread Republic Services compost on bed K4.
Saturday Lance and Bruce worked on the Western 4 K-beds and the lasagna mulch area to the West of the K-beds. For this description, I will number the existing beds K1 through K7 (East to West) knowing that this convention hasn’t been nailed down yet.
The remaining half of bed K4 was leveled and three 5-gallon buckets for rock removed.
Additional rock was removed from the surface of bed K5 (Lance: # of 2-gallon buckets?).
6 wheel barrows of chip mulch were spread on the aisle between K6 and K7 bringing the level up to about 3 inches below the bed surfaces along the Southern 20 feet of aisle.
Piles of previously placed Republic Recyclery mulch (RRM) were spread to cover the entire 5-foot wide K7 bed in about 4 to 5 inches of mulch.
Piles of previously placed RRM were spread to cover the Southern quarter of the 4-foot wide K6 bed in about 3 inches of mulch.
Grass clippings and predominantly leafy mulch (form North or South Pile) was spread in lasagna mulch fashion over the area to the West of K7.
